Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be mandatory for all Azure sign-ins
Starting this fall, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be mandatory for all Azure sign-ins. This change aims to enhance security against account compromise and unauthorized access, by requiring users to verify their identity through a second authentication method, such as a text message, app notification, or biometrics, in addition to their password.
The change will be introduced in phases:
• Phase 1: Starting in October, MFA will be required to sign-in to Azure portal, Microsoft Entra admin center, and Intune admin center. The enforcement will gradually roll out to all tenants worldwide.
• Phase 2: Beginning in early 2025, gradual enforcement for MFA at sign-in for Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, Azure mobile app, and Infrastructure as Code.
