AEG Worldwide's Intranet Overhaul: Revolutionizing Employee Engagement and Event Management
AEG Worldwide partnered with Chiron IT to reimagine its underutilized intranet into a dynamic digital workplace. With only 20–30% employee engagement on the existing platform, the goal was to create a user-friendly, mobile-responsive portal that better supported internal communication and large-scale event operations.
Through an Agile development approach, Chiron introduced several custom applications, including an RSVP app, a peer recognition “Shoutouts” widget, and a robust event management system—all built on SharePoint, Power Apps, and Power Automate. AEG’s global search functionality was enhanced using PnP Search, enabling employees to access relevant content across multiple sites with ease.
Following the revamp, intranet engagement surged by 90%, while the time required for event planning dropped by 50%. The modernized portal now acts as a central hub for collaboration, recognition, and operational efficiency across AEG’s global workforce.

To ascertain the reason for low usage, we surveyed AEG’s industry to know its competition and how they stack up against them.
Requirements gathering
We interviewed staff from the various departments of AEG, including event management, marketing, and operations. After identifying their content-sharing and collaboration needs, we carried out surveys about the color grades and shapes that appeal to AEG’s employees, benchmarking them against modern intranet designs to identify user-friendly improvements.
Architecture design
We defined the portal’s frontend, backend, and database structure for multimedia-friendly support. We also created a mobile-friendly wireframe for employees on-site or on the go and planned for integration with existing systems.
Technology selection
In the technology selection subphase, we selected media-rich platforms that support event content and internal communications, ensuring mobile accessibility for staff, while integrating collaboration enablements such as video conferencing and live-event feeds.

RSVP Apps and Flow
This enabled users to RSVP for various AEG-hosted events. Admins could compute event details, and users could RSVP directly via the app. They could also specify food preferences, transportation options, automatically generate guest lists, and track attendance in real time.
Configuration for Global Search Using PnP Search
This tool enhanced SharePoint Online’s search capabilities on the portal, allowing global searches across multiple sites while controlling user permissions and access clearance.
Shoutouts App
We developed a PowerApps widget for the intranet’s home page. It allows employees to appreciate their colleagues. Likes were displayed via a slider to create a dynamic and interactive feature.
Event Management System
The AEG intranet portal revamp included an event management system that enabled admins to create and manage events with integrations to the RSVP app. Events could be configured for internal or external audiences, with additional customizations for food, venues, and target audiences.
